Richard Avedon

Dovima with Elephants - 1955

"I've worked out of a series of no's. No to exquisite light, no to apparent compositions, no to the seduction of poses or narrative. And all these no's force me to the "yes." I have a white background. I have the person I'm interested in and the thing that happens between us." -quote: Richard Avedon-

I'll let his photos say all the rest.

Enjoy! :)

As we’re almost at the end of 2010, I’ve decided to write down a chart regarding the 5 most famous women in the fashion field as far as this ending year is concerned.
Before starting with it, I’d like to clarify two points:

- when I use the word “famous” I don’t mean “powerful” (even though their fame has given them great power) ; I’m rather referring to these women’s level of notoriety among those people who are not in the fashion field.

- as I’m referring just to the year 2010, I’m taking in consideration just those personalities who have experienced a high increase of their popularity during this year.

Enjoy! :)

5. Olivia Palermo

She’s one of the main characters in one of the most seen reality
shows in Mtv’s history, a NY socialite, the face of several
advertising campaigns and has got an exquisite taste for fashion.
Despite the twelve-year-old body (which sometimes truly scares me),
Olivia Palermo really seems to know what she’s talking about when
it comes to clothes; therefore she’s considered today a real style icon.
Personally, I adore her taste in matter of clothes, but I don’t like her
attitude: considering yourself already a diva without having made
actually anything seems to me a very rash move.

4. Lara Stone

“She’s got more hips, more curves, she blushes and she’s different; and
that’s why we love her, because she’s different”, with these words Carine
Roitfeld (future former director of Vogue France), describes the Dutch
model Lara Stone, the girl who made of imperfections her trademark and
who has been one of the most requested in the runways of all over the
world this year. With her magnetic beauty, Lara Stone has soon become
one of the most famous top models in the world. Just one world: congrats.

3. Miroslava Duma

o Tommy Ton (http://jakandjil.com).
"less is more", Miroslava abbina spesso capi lineari ad importanti

She was already widely known in the fashion system, but she’s
recently become a downright “celebrity” even among those people
who are not insiders, especially thanks to those photos taken to her
by names like Scott Schuman (http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com)
or Tommy Ton (http://jakandjil.com). Aged only 25, Miroslava
Duma has been fashion editor of Russian’s Harper’s Bazaar, she’s
married with a Russian mogul and in October she gave birth to her
first child. Above all this, what strikes most about her is her brilliant
sense of style: on the basis of the motto “less is more”, Miroslava
often pairs clean pieces with big accessories; she’s a girl to follow
    and to appreciate.

(AMO quella gonna - I LOVE that skirt)

Cosa indossare a Capodanno (e a qualsiasi altra festa): 7 consigli utili per scegliere il TUO abito - What to wear for New Year's Eve (and every other party): 7 useful tips to choose YOUR OWN dress

In this period one of the most frequently asked questions is: "What am I going to wear for New Year's Eve?"; as it often happens with such generic questions, the anwer is: it depends. Trying to help you with this choice, I've decided to give you 7 little (and I hope useful) tips on how to choose YOUR perfect dress:

1. Pensate all'occasione - Think about the occasion

The first step to find your ideal dress is to understand the type of event
you're going to take part in: does it take place at a friend's house or in
a super-elegant place? Are you going to play bingo with all your relatives
or dance the whole night? Each one of these occasions includes different
kinds of places, people and actions, so the way you're dressed has to be
appropriate and coherent with them. Therefore, think about the general
tone of the event before deciding what to wear.

Find a mood or an item to start from

Once you've understood the kind of event you're going to take part
in, it's time for you to think about the mood (i.e. the "feeling") you'd
like to convey through your outfit: you might start from an image,
a photo, a colour or even an item or accessory you really like and
from that you can begin thinking about your look.

example of a look created from a mood (it's made by me ^_^):

3. Decidete un budget - Decide your budget

    solo tanta pazienza!)

Once you've choosen the element to start with, you should decide
your budget: depending on the price range you're referring to, try
to understand which shops best suit you and get close to your taste.
A tip in the tip: just take a look at those shops who sell more
expensive items, too. No, not for hurting yourselves, but in order to
take inspiration from them; if you see something you really liked in
one of those shops, try to re-create that look (or a similar one) using
items that belong to your price range; I know, it seems difficult, but
you just have to be very patient!

Designed by Italo Rota e Fabio Fornasari and inhaugurated on December, 6th 2010, the "Museo del Novecento" celebrates its opening letting the public enter there for free until February, 28th 2011; therefore, which better occasion than this one to go there with a couple of friends, spending a different afternoon together before Christmas?
Here there are some of my favourites works:

Stilisti Emergenti: Wes Gordon - Emerging Designers: Wes Gordon

The Designer:

Wes Gordon was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but then he moved to London, where he attended the famous Central Saint Martins University of Art and Design (in which also designers like Stella McCartney, John Galliano and Alexander McQuenn have previoulsy studied). It's there that he obtained his first great award: in 2009 he was chosen as the designer who had to close with his collection the prestigious annual University's press show. That collection generated a lot of enthusiasm and from that moment on Gordon has started to be known in all London (first) and in the whole world (then). Now his creations are sold in shops like "Saks Fifth Avenue" and "Harrods".

Among hundreds (or ever thousands) of dresses, on the famous red carpets we've seen dresses of all kinds: from fake swans used as piece of clothing (?) to lots of unconvincing (or worse boring) outfits. However, despite those catastrophes, real masterpieces have risen: also thanks to the beauty of the women that were wearing them, some dresses became part of the history of Fashion.
Here I'll show you which are the best 10 dresses ever seen on a red carpet (that's, of course, just my humble opinion): enjoy!

1) Eva Mendes in Dior - Golden Globe Awards 2009

This is the dress I wanna be buried with, I'm not kidding.
I LOVE everything about it: the shape, the colour, the cut!!
    Pure perfection.
Ah, and the Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery is an absolute masterpiece.

2) Keira Knightley in Chanel Haute Couture - Venezia Film Festival 2007

Keira + abito rosa chiaro in stile babydoll firmato Chanel Haute Couture.
    Non ho altro da dire.

Keira + light-pink-baby-doll-style Chanel Haute Couture gown.
    No other words.

3) Angelina Jolie in Max Azria - Cannes Film Festival 2008

    corpo meraviglioso.

Here Angelina looks like a goddess (Mother Nature?) and her dress just
seems to be part of her, as it enhances every single curve of her
    wonderful body.

4) Eva Longoria in Angel Sanchez - Emmy Awards 2005

This dress is just gorgeous: the colour, the shape and the jeweled
neckline just match perfectly. And the way it fits Eva's body...it is insane!

5) Grace Kelly in Helen Rose - Academy Awards 1956

When I first saw this picture I said "wow". That's pure Elegance.
